How to Choose the Perfect Stone for Your Engagement Ring

Choosing the right gemstone for your engagement ring is a meaningful and exciting step in your journey. At Aquamarise, we offer a variety of gemstones to match your style, personality, and practical needs. Below, we’ll walk you through important factors to consider when selecting the perfect stone for your ring.

Durability: Choose a Stone That Lasts

One of the most important aspects of choosing a gemstone for an engagement ring is durability. Your engagement ring is something you'll wear daily, so it's essential to pick a stone that can withstand the rigors of daily life. We recommend selecting gemstones that are harder than 8 on the Mohs scale to ensure long-term durability. Harder stones are more resistant to scratches and chips, making them ideal for engagement rings that will stand the test of time.

Here’s a quick look at some popular gemstones and their hardness:

  • Diamond: 10 (the hardest gemstone, making it incredibly durable)
  • Moissanite: 9.25 (a brilliant and durable diamond alternative)
  • Sapphire: 9 (a stunning and durable choice for a non-traditional ring)
  • Ruby: 9 (another tough and timeless option)
  • Alexandrite: 8.5 (known for its color-changing properties and durability)
  • Topaz: 8 (a beautiful choice with good durability)
  • Aquamarine: 7.5-8 (perfect for those who love a touch of the ocean’s beauty)
  • Moss Agate: 6.5-7 (an enchanting stone for nature-inspired designs)

Stones softer than 8 on the Mohs scale, such as moss agate, opals, or moonstones, while breathtakingly beautiful, require more careful wear and maintenance. These are still a fantastic choice for those who prefer their unique aesthetics but may not be ideal for everyday use.

Types of Gemstones We Offer

At Aquamarise, we offer a variety of gemstones to suit every style and budget. You’ll find the following options in our collection:

  • Natural Gemstones: Ethically sourced and hand-selected, these are genuine stones formed by nature. Their rarity and beauty make them a timeless choice.
  • Lab-Grown Gemstones: These gems are chemically and physically identical to their natural counterparts but are grown in a controlled environment. Lab-grown gemstones offer an eco-friendly and affordable option without compromising on quality or brilliance.
  • Simulated Gemstones: If you love the look of high-end gemstones but are working within a budget, simulated gemstones are a perfect choice. These stones mimic the appearance of natural gemstones but at a fraction of the price.

We believe in offering transparency, so be sure to check the item description for more information about the specific gemstone in each piece.

I love the wedding ring and I love the men's ring and my only complaint is the stone on the engagement ring. I did read that depending on how it was cut and what part was used the colors and textures could be different. But mine looked like a dirty Stone it didn't really look like the Galaxy like it looks in the pictures it was clear with black polka dots. I feel that a stone that isn't close enough to the beauty that it's supposed to have just shouldn't be used so I feel like they should have just discarded this Stone and gave me a different one from the cut. The other two are beautiful it's just a main engagement ring that I feel should have been better.

The photo contrast on the item listing make it appear brighter/more brilliant than they are in person. The gemstone is not as luminous as I was expecting

The earrings matched my wife's wedding ring perfectly and she loves them. We haven't had any issues with any of the settings either.
