Solid 14K yellow gold — the heirloom tier
"Solid gold" means the entire ring is gold alloy throughout — no plating, no gold-filled construction, no sterling silver core. 14K yellow gold is gold alloyed with copper and silver to produce the warm classical yellow tone, hard enough for daily wear, and built to last indefinitely.
A solid 14K yellow gold ring is built to last a lifetime. It doesn't need replating, doesn't wear through, and holds resale and inheritance value. This is the version you choose when you want the engagement ring to outlast you — not just for the duration of the marriage, but for generations after. Yellow gold against the white moissanite + black onyx palette is a deliberate vintage-classical color story — warm gold provides the heirloom-traditional context that white metal would shift toward modern-minimalist instead.
About the oval moissanite center (VVS1, D color)
The center stone is real moissanite — silicon carbide, a distinct gemstone material with its own optical and physical properties. Moissanite is not a diamond, not a lab-grown diamond, and not a simulated diamond. It's its own gemstone, originally discovered in meteorite fragments in 1893 by Henri Moissan (hence the name), and now grown in laboratories for jewelry use.
This moissanite is specified at the top tier of moissanite quality:
- Color: D — the most desirable color grade for white moissanite (and the equivalent grade scale to diamond's D color, the colorless top of the scale). Reads as crystalline pure white with no yellow or grey tint.
- Clarity: VVS1 — Very, Very Slightly Included, grade 1. Inclusions are extremely difficult to see even under 10x magnification by a trained gemologist. Eye-clean by an enormous margin.
- Cut: Oval — 6×8mm, classical oval brilliant facet pattern
- Hardness: 9.25 on the Mohs scale — between sapphire (9) and diamond (10). One of the most durable engagement ring stones available.
- Optics: Moissanite has higher dispersion than diamond — more "fire" (rainbow flash) than a diamond of comparable cut. This is one of the visual signatures of moissanite vs diamond.
VVS1 + D color is the top of moissanite specification — significantly above the "good enough" tier most moissanite engagement rings use. The choice matters: at this clarity and color grade, the stone reads as crystalline white with no perceptible color cast, and inclusions are invisible to the unaided eye and difficult to see even under magnification.
About the milgrain bezel setting
The oval moissanite is set in a bezel with milgrain detail — meaning the stone is enclosed by a continuous gold rim that holds the perimeter rather than the usual claw prongs, and the gold rim itself is finished with a fine row of beaded "milgrain" detail. Both elements are vintage-jewelry references:
- Bezel setting — the rim enclosure has been used in jewelry since antiquity but became especially associated with art deco and Edwardian jewelry in the early 20th century. It protects the stone (no prongs to catch or break), gives the stone a clean architectural silhouette, and makes the stone face larger by visually framing it.
- Milgrain detail — the fine beaded border around the bezel rim is a signature Edwardian and Victorian metalwork technique. It softens the bezel's edge from a clean line into a more delicate ornamental boundary, adding subtle texture that catches light differently than smooth gold.
Together the bezel + milgrain combination gives the center stone a deliberately vintage-heirloom presentation that pairs especially well with the leaf band and the cluster halos.
About the natural black onyx trillion accents
The two dark accent stones flanking the oval center (one at each side at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions) are trillion-cut natural black onyx — real natural chalcedony quartz with a deep opaque black body. Most commercial black onyx used in fine jewelry, including the stones in this ring, is heat-treated and dyed to achieve uniform black saturation from the natural grey/banded chalcedony rough. The treatment is permanent, stable, and industry-standard for black onyx. The underlying material is genuine natural chalcedony quartz.
Important honesty: these are not black diamonds. The trillion accents are real natural black onyx, an entirely different material from diamond (chalcedony quartz vs carbon). Black diamonds at this size and quantity would significantly increase the ring's price. The visual reading is comparable (deep opaque black) at an accessible price point.
The trillion (triangular) cut of these accent stones is an unusual choice that contributes meaningfully to the design — the sharp triangular silhouette contrasts with the soft curves of the oval center and the cluster halos, adding visual tension and contemporary geometry to the otherwise vintage-classical composition. Black onyx upgrade pathway: lab-grown black diamond or natural mined black diamond accents available on request for buyers wanting the all-diamond heirloom configuration.
About the moissanite cluster halos (top + bottom)
The graduated round moissanite stones rising above and descending below the center oval are arranged in a "double cluster halo" — three stones at the top (one larger center, two smaller flanking) and three stones at the bottom (one larger center, two smaller flanking). The symmetrical arrangement reads as art deco — the geometric balance and graduated proportioning are signature art deco design language from the 1920s and 30s.
The cluster halos also serve a practical function: they visually extend the ring face vertically along the finger, making the design read taller and more dramatic than the oval center alone would. The combined ring face with the cluster halos reads as a "totem" or "vertical statement" silhouette rather than a centered horizontal halo, which suits the leaf band's organic vertical-flowing direction.
About the sculpted leaf band
The band itself is sculpted with leaf metalwork — alternating relief-carved leaf forms flowing down each shoulder from the central setting. The leaf motif has been used in nature-inspired bridal jewelry for centuries, but the sculpted gold relief here is distinctive: rather than thin wire leaves or simple stylized leaf shapes, these leaves are dimensional, dimensional-feeling, with depth and shadow in the metal itself.
The leaf band positions this ring in the nature-inspired/cottagecore aesthetic register alongside the vintage milgrain + art deco cluster halos + gothic onyx trillion accents — the layered design vocabularies create a ring that fits multiple aesthetic categories simultaneously. Buyers shopping nature-inspired engagement rings, vintage milgrain rings, art deco rings, gothic-romantic rings, or moissanite engagement rings will all find this ring matches their search visually.

How to wear it
- Engagement ring — the primary role, especially for buyers drawn to nature-inspired, vintage milgrain, art deco, cottagecore, or alternative bridal aesthetics rather than the standard white-diamond solitaire. The solid 14K gold tier elevates the design to heirloom status
- Promise ring — solid gold construction and the substantial composition give the ring the full weight of a lifetime commitment piece
- Anniversary or milestone heirloom gift — appropriate for major anniversaries or generational gifts. The vintage-heirloom design language suits anniversary contexts particularly well
- Right-hand statement ring — the layered aesthetic vocabularies work as a non-bridal statement piece for buyers drawn to vintage-meets-nature heirloom jewelry
For an engagement ring pairing, this ring stacks beautifully with a curved or chevron contour wedding band — match in solid 14K yellow gold for a unified heirloom stack, or contrast with solid white or rose gold contour bands for a deliberate two-tone bridal look. Plain twisted-rope bands, milgrain bands, or matching leaf-motif bands all stack well alongside.

Sizing & care
Standard sizes 3–10 (US) available in the dropdown. Larger and smaller sizes are available on request — message us before ordering. Half and quarter sizes available. Sizing can vary slightly between jewelers and mandrels — up to half a size — so if you've been sized recently elsewhere, check our sizing guide before ordering or message us for a complimentary ring sizer.
For care, the ring has two stone types with different durability profiles. The moissanite (center + cluster halo accents) sits at Mohs 9.25 — one of the most durable engagement ring stones available, second only to diamond. The black onyx trillion accents sit at Mohs 6.5–7 — softer and require more careful handling. Across both: avoid impact on hard surfaces, harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and extreme temperature changes (heat-treatment leaves onyx more sensitive to thermal shock). Clean with warm water and a soft brush; skip jewelry cleaners and ultrasonics on this ring.
Solid 14K yellow gold doesn't need replating and holds its tone indefinitely with normal wear. A soft jewelry cloth keeps the gold bright. The trillion onyx accents have pointed corners that are the most vulnerable parts of the stones — avoid impact on hard surfaces. Store the ring separately from other jewelry so the prongs and milgrain detail don't catch on other pieces.
Frequently asked questions
Is this ring solid gold or gold plated?
Solid 14K yellow gold throughout — no plating, no gold-filled construction, no sterling silver core. The entire ring is gold alloy. Built to last a lifetime, never needs replating, holds resale and inheritance value.
Is moissanite a diamond?
No — moissanite is its own distinct gemstone, not a diamond, not a lab-grown diamond, and not a simulated diamond. Moissanite is silicon carbide (a different material from diamond's carbon). Originally discovered in meteorite fragments in 1893 by Henri Moissan, now grown in laboratories for jewelry use. Hardness 9.25 on the Mohs scale (between sapphire at 9 and diamond at 10), more fire (rainbow flash) than diamond.
What does VVS1 D color mean?
Top-tier moissanite specifications: D color means the most desirable color grade for white moissanite — crystalline pure white with no yellow or grey tint. VVS1 clarity means Very, Very Slightly Included grade 1 — inclusions extremely difficult to see even under 10x magnification by a trained gemologist, eye-clean by significant margin. This is the top of moissanite specifications, significantly above the standard tier most moissanite engagement rings use.
How does moissanite compare visually to diamond?
Visually similar at first glance — both are white crystalline stones with high brilliance. Key differences: moissanite has higher dispersion than diamond, meaning more "fire" (rainbow flash) and a more colorful sparkle pattern. Diamond has higher brilliance (white light return) but less fire. Many buyers prefer moissanite specifically for the extra fire; others prefer diamond's more subtle sparkle character. At VVS1 D specifications, the moissanite reads as a crystalline pure white stone with strong sparkle and rainbow flash.
Can I upgrade to lab-grown or natural diamond instead?
Yes — both available at additional cost on request. Lab-grown diamond is real diamond grown in a controlled lab (same chemistry, same hardness as natural mined diamond, more accessible). Natural mined diamond is genuine mined diamond with cultural significance and resale value. Message us before ordering for a custom quote on either upgrade.
Are the dark trillion accents black diamonds?
No, by default — the trillion accents are natural black onyx, a variety of chalcedony quartz with a deep opaque black body. Most commercial black onyx is heat-treated and dyed for uniform black saturation, industry standard. At this solid 14K yellow gold heirloom tier, however, we offer two black-stone upgrade pathways: lab-grown black diamond (real diamond, Mohs 10, lab-grown) and natural mined black diamond (real natural mined diamond, significant price premium). Message us to discuss either upgrade.
Is the black onyx natural?
Yes — real natural chalcedony quartz. The black color in commercial onyx jewelry is typically achieved through industry-standard heat treatment and color stabilization of natural grey/banded chalcedony rough. The stone is natural mined material; the treatment refines the color to uniform deep black. Permanent and stable.
What is milgrain?
Milgrain is a fine beaded metalwork detail applied along edges of jewelry — a continuous row of tiny gold beads that softens the boundary of a setting or band. The technique is a signature of Edwardian and Victorian jewelry from the late 1800s and early 1900s. On this ring, the milgrain detail edges the bezel rim around the oval moissanite center, adding subtle ornamental texture that catches light differently than smooth gold.
What is a bezel setting?
A bezel setting holds the center stone in place with a continuous gold rim around the stone's perimeter rather than the usual claw prongs. Advantages: protects the stone (no prongs to catch or break), gives the stone a clean architectural silhouette, and visually frames the stone to read larger. The bezel setting has been used in jewelry since antiquity but became especially associated with art deco and Edwardian bridal jewelry.
What aesthetic does this ring suit?
The ring layers four design vocabularies: nature-inspired/cottagecore (leaf band), Edwardian/vintage (milgrain bezel), art deco (symmetrical cluster halos), and gothic accent (black onyx trillions). Buyers drawn to any of these aesthetics individually will find the ring matches; buyers drawn to layered/distinctive engagement rings that don't fit one strict aesthetic category will find this is genuinely a category-of-one piece. Works for vintage-loving cottagecore brides, art deco enthusiasts, nature-inspired bridal shoppers, and gothic-leaning alternative bridal buyers simultaneously.
How big is the center stone?
6.0 × 8.0 mm oval cut moissanite. Oval cuts spread wider than they are deep and the elongated vertical orientation visually elongates the finger, so the stone reads larger than a 1ct round would. With the cluster halos extending above and below, the total ring face reads even larger as a vertical statement composition.
How durable is the ring for daily wear?
The moissanite center and accent stones are one of the most durable gemstone choices for daily wear engagement rings — Mohs 9.25, second only to diamond. Black onyx trillion accents are softer (Mohs 6.5–7), requiring more careful handling. With sensible care, the ring holds up well as daily wear. The trillion onyx's pointed corners are the most vulnerable parts; the bezel setting on the center protects the moissanite from chipping.
How does engraving work?
Complimentary engraving up to 16 characters is included. You can specify the text at checkout or message us with the engraving details before ordering. Engraving is interior (inside the band), the standard placement for engagement ring engravings.
Can I get this in 14K white or rose gold instead?
Yes — both are available on request at the same construction. White gold would emphasize the moissanite + black contrast and read as cooler/modern; rose gold would soften the design into romantic register; yellow gold (this listing default) preserves the vintage-classical heirloom palette. 18K upgrades (yellow, white, or rose) are also available at additional cost. Message us before ordering.
Will this ring stack with a wedding band?
Yes. The oval center and milgrain bezel give a curved or chevron contour band natural nesting room. Match in solid 14K yellow gold for a unified heirloom stack, or contrast with solid white or rose gold contour bands for a two-tone bridal look. Plain twisted-rope bands, milgrain bands, or matching leaf-motif bands all stack well alongside.
How long until my ring ships?
Made to order, 2–6 week production timeline. Modifications (different metal, custom engraving, diamond center upgrade, black diamond accent upgrade, custom sizing) may extend the timeline. We'll confirm production timing when your order is placed.
Should I add the appraisal?
The optional appraisal is recommended if you plan to insure the ring or want an independent valuation document for your records. Most insurance providers require a written appraisal to schedule the ring on a jewelry policy. The appraisal cost is non-refundable once the work has been performed, so add it at checkout only if you know you'll use it.
Are the stones ethically sourced?
Yes. Moissanite is lab-grown with no mining footprint. Natural black onyx is ethically sourced and conflict-free chalcedony quartz. Diamond accent upgrade options (lab-grown or natural mined) sourced from ethical conflict-free origins.
What's included in the box?
The ring, a free luxury velvet jewelry box, and a care card. Free USA shipping.
