This heirloom-tier emerald engagement ring features a striking 6×8mm hexagon-cut lab-grown emerald center stone (~1.4ct) flanked by natural green moss agate marquise accent stones in a delicate leaf-motif arrangement, with brilliant moissanite accents at the band shoulders, set in solid 14K white gold. The vivid green emerald reads bold against the cool white gold metal, while the natural moss agate accents add organic, nature-inspired texture that gives the ring fairycore, elvish, or woodland-vintage character. The geometric hexagon cut and symmetrical cluster setting create distinctly art deco character. For partners drawn to vintage, art deco, nature-inspired, or non-traditional bridal aesthetics — heirloom-quality engagement rings that combine geometric heritage design with organic natural-stone elements at the solid precious metal tier.
Why solid 14K white gold matters
Solid 14K white gold is the metal itself, not a plating layer. That means the cool white-gold color is permanent and won't fade, the metal won't tarnish, and the ring is suitable for daily wear over decades. White gold creates a clean, modern color story that lets the green emerald and moss agate accents read most vividly through cool-warm contrast — the cool metal background makes the green stones pop visually. White gold is also the closest precious-metal aesthetic to platinum at a more accessible price point. The 14K alloy is durable enough to hold the intricate cluster setting without bending or wearing down. Solid gold rings can also be passed down as family heirlooms — appropriate for an engagement ring intended to symbolize lasting commitment.
The lab-grown emerald
The center stone is lab-grown emerald (1.4ct, 6×8mm hexagon cut). Lab-grown emerald is identical to mined emerald in chemical composition (beryl with chromium traces producing the green color), hardness (7.5-8 Mohs), and optical properties — same crystalline structure, same vivid green color, same brilliance. The only difference is origin: lab-grown emeralds are created in controlled laboratory conditions over weeks rather than mined from the earth over millions of years. The result is emeralds with consistently excellent color saturation, fewer inclusions than typical mined emeralds (which are known for heavy natural inclusions called "jardin"), more accessible pricing, and ethical/sustainable origin without environmental disruption or supply-chain concerns. This is genuine emerald — not a simulated alternative.
The hexagon cut and leaf-motif cluster
The hexagon cut is one of the most distinctive geometric gemstone shapes in fine jewelry — a six-sided cut with sharp angular edges that reads as deliberately architectural rather than rounded. Combined with the leaf-motif accent arrangement (marquise moss agate stones positioned like leaves flanking the center) and round moissanite shoulder accents, the setting creates a vintage cluster construction that's unmistakably heritage-inspired. The hexagon cut works particularly well for emerald because the angular facets enhance the stone's natural depth of green color — geometric shapes capture and hold light differently than rounded cuts, creating concentrated pools of color in each facet. Hexagon cuts are core to art deco-era jewelry design.
The natural moss agate accents
The marquise-cut accent stones flanking the center emerald are real natural green moss agate — a variety of chalcedony quartz with the distinctive mossy green inclusions that give moss agate its name. Each moss agate accent shows the characteristic organic pattern of inclusions: tiny moss-like fragments suspended within the translucent stone, no two moss agates ever quite identical. The use of natural moss agate (rather than synthetic or simulated stones) as accent material is distinctive — most cluster engagement rings use lab-created or simulated accent stones, but using real moss agate adds genuine nature-inspired character and unique visual texture to each ring. The leaf-shape positioning of the moss agate accents reinforces the woodland/fairycore aesthetic.
The moissanite shoulder accents
The small round accent stones at the band shoulders are lab-grown moissanite — a real gemstone (silicon carbide) with higher optical brilliance than diamond, 9-9.25 Mohs hardness, and sustainable lab-grown origin. Moissanite at the shoulders adds bright sparkle that frames the emerald center without distracting from it, and pairs naturally with the lab-grown emerald center stone at the solid gold tier (both materials lab-grown with identical chemistry to their natural counterparts, both heirloom-quality). Moissanite is harder than emerald, contributing to the durability profile of the band shoulders that experience the most contact wear.
About emerald — symbolism and history
Emerald has been one of the four traditional precious gemstones (alongside diamond, ruby, and sapphire) for over 4,000 years. Cleopatra famously favored emeralds above all other gemstones; Cleopatra's emerald mines in ancient Egypt are some of the oldest documented gemstone mines in history. Across cultures, emerald has been associated with rebirth, growth, eternal love, foresight, and wisdom. In medieval European tradition, emerald was believed to reveal lovers' truthfulness — a stone that promised honest love. As an engagement ring stone, emerald carries deeper symbolic weight than newer stones — it represents devoted love that grows over time, like the perpetual green color of the stone itself.
About moss agate — accent stone symbolism
Moss agate has been valued since ancient times as a stone of growth, abundance, new beginnings, and connection to nature. Often called "the gardener's stone," it was historically believed to encourage plant growth, fertility, and prosperity. In modern symbolism, moss agate represents grounding, emotional balance, tranquility, and harmony with the natural world. The combination of emerald (devoted, eternal love) + moss agate (grounding, growth, connection to nature) creates layered symbolic meaning — a ring whose two stones together represent a love that's both devoted and deeply rooted in the natural world. The leaf-motif placement of the moss agate accents reinforces this dual symbolism visually.

Optional appraisal

Sizing & care
Standard fine jewelry care: store in a cloth pouch or jewelry box separated from harder jewelry. Clean gently with a soft brush and warm soapy water, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners (emerald is sensitive to ultrasonic cleaning due to its natural fracture patterns). Remove before swimming in chlorinated pools or hot tubs.
Emerald is rated 7.5-8 on the Mohs hardness scale — durable enough for daily wear as an engagement ring, though softer than diamond, ruby, or sapphire (which are 9-10 Mohs). With normal care it holds up well, but avoid sharp impacts and remove during heavy hands-on work. The natural moss agate accent stones are softer (6-7 Mohs) and benefit from similar gentle handling. Solid 14K white gold rings can be resized within reason by a local jeweler — solid gold is forgiving for resizing, though the cluster setting adds some complexity.
Emerald engagement ring FAQs
Is the emerald real?
Yes. The center stone is real lab-grown emerald (1.4ct, 6×8mm hexagon cut). They aren't synthetic imitations — they're genuine emerald with lab-controlled origin.
What's the difference between lab-grown and simulated emerald?
Lab-grown stones have identical chemical structure to mined versions (same beryl crystalline structure, same hardness, same optical properties as natural emerald, just created in controlled laboratory conditions). Simulated stones are designed to mimic the appearance of the target gemstone but may have different chemical composition. This ring features lab-grown emerald — genuine emerald with identical chemistry to natural mined emerald, just lab-created origin. This is the heirloom-tier choice. Our sterling silver version of this same design uses simulated emerald at a more accessible price point.
Why are the moss agate accent stones natural rather than lab-grown?
Moss agate's distinctive visual character — the organic moss-like inclusions suspended within the translucent stone — is fundamentally a product of its natural geological formation. Lab-grown moss agate doesn't exist as a commercially available product because no one has successfully replicated the natural inclusion patterns artificially. Using real natural moss agate is the only way to get authentic moss agate visual character. Each piece is genuinely one-of-a-kind because no two natural moss agates have identical inclusion patterns.
Is this real solid 14K white gold?
Yes. The ring is crafted from solid 14K white gold throughout — the cool white-gold color is the metal itself, not a plating layer. That means the color is permanent, won't fade, won't wear off, and the ring is suitable for daily wear over decades. Solid gold rings can also be resized and passed down as family heirlooms. 14K white gold typically receives a thin rhodium finish at manufacture for additional brightness — this rhodium layer can be refreshed at any local jeweler if it wears thin over the years.
What are the moissanite shoulder accents?
The small round accent stones at the band shoulders are lab-grown moissanite — a real gemstone (silicon carbide) with higher optical brilliance than diamond, 9-9.25 Mohs hardness, and sustainable lab-grown origin. Moissanite at the shoulders adds bright sparkle that frames the emerald center, and pairs naturally with the lab-grown emerald center stone at the solid gold tier (both materials lab-grown with identical chemistry to their natural counterparts).
Why a hexagon cut?
The hexagon cut is one of the most distinctive geometric gemstone shapes — a six-sided cut with sharp angular edges that reads as deliberately architectural. It works particularly well for emerald because the geometric facets enhance the stone's natural depth of green color — angular shapes capture and hold light differently than rounded cuts, creating concentrated pools of color in each facet. Hexagon cuts are core to art deco-era jewelry design.
Is this a halo ring or a cluster ring?
This is a cluster ring rather than a halo ring. The setting features marquise moss agate stones positioned like leaves on either side of the hexagon center, with small moissanite rounds at the shoulders. The leaf-motif cluster setting is a distinctive vintage and art deco design element that gives the ring genuine bridal presence without the overdone halo proliferation common in contemporary engagement rings.
What does emerald symbolize?
Emerald has been one of the four traditional precious gemstones for over 4,000 years. Across cultures, emerald has been associated with rebirth, growth, eternal love, foresight, and wisdom. In medieval European tradition, emerald was believed to reveal lovers' truthfulness — a stone that promised honest love. As an engagement ring stone, emerald represents devoted love that grows over time, like the perpetual green color of the stone itself.
What does moss agate symbolize?
Moss agate has been valued since ancient times as a stone of growth, abundance, new beginnings, and connection to nature. The combination of emerald + moss agate creates layered symbolic meaning — a love that's both devoted (emerald) and deeply rooted in the natural world (moss agate). The leaf-motif placement of the moss agate accents reinforces this dual symbolism visually.
Is emerald a May birthstone?
Yes. Emerald is the traditional May birthstone — and the most beloved May birthstone for buyers who want a stone with strong symbolic depth and visual character. This ring is especially meaningful as an engagement ring or birthstone gift for partners with May birthdays. Emerald is also the traditional 20th and 35th anniversary gemstone.
Is emerald durable enough for daily wear?
Emerald is rated 7.5-8 on the Mohs hardness scale — durable enough for daily wear as an engagement ring, though softer than diamond (10 Mohs), ruby/sapphire (9 Mohs). With normal care it holds up well, but avoid sharp impacts and remove during heavy hands-on work. Lab-grown emerald has fewer natural inclusions than typical mined emerald, which means it's actually slightly more durable than natural emerald (mined emeralds often have heavy internal fractures called "jardin" that make them more vulnerable to impact). Avoid ultrasonic cleaners — emerald is sensitive to ultrasonic cleaning.
Can I get this in yellow gold or rose gold instead?
Yes. The standard option is 14K solid white gold, but we also offer 14K yellow gold and 14K rose gold on request. The metal can also be upgraded to 18K solid gold for an additional cost. Just contact us before ordering or leave a note at checkout. Different gold colors create different visual relationships with the emerald — white gold creates cool-warm contrast that pops the green, yellow gold creates a warmer overall feel, rose gold creates a soft romantic color story.
How long does it take to make?
This ring is made to order. Please allow 2-6 weeks for production. Requested modifications (different metals, sizing outside the standard range, alternative center stones) may extend the timeline and adjust pricing — we'll confirm everything with you before production begins.
Can this ring be resized after purchase?
Yes — solid gold rings can be resized within reason by a local jeweler. The cluster setting adds some complexity, so choose a skilled jeweler who can resize without disrupting the stone settings. We recommend ordering your correct size from the start whenever possible.
Is there a more accessible version of this ring?
Yes. We also offer this same hexagon-cut emerald + moss agate cluster design in 925 sterling silver with rhodium finish (with simulated emerald and CZ accents) at a more accessible price point. Same design template, same moss agate accent stones, same leaf-motif cluster construction — just sterling silver vermeil instead of solid 14K white gold. Browse our sterling silver engagement ring collection for the alternative.
Does this ring come with a matching wedding band?
This listing is for the engagement ring only. We can custom-make a coordinating wedding band in matching 14K white gold (plain or with moissanite or moss agate accents) — contact us before ordering for a custom quote. The sterling silver version of this design has a published matching men's wedding band and couples ring set; the solid gold matching pieces can be quoted on request.
How do I care for this ring?
Standard fine jewelry care: store in a cloth pouch or jewelry box separated from harder jewelry. Clean gently with a soft brush and warm soapy water, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners (emerald is sensitive to ultrasonic cleaning). Avoid chlorinated pools or hot tubs. Remove the ring during heavy hands-on work to protect the cluster setting structure and the natural moss agate accents.
