A three-piece nesting set built around a 5 × 10 mm lab-grown ruby, marquise cut and held north–south in a milgrain frame with marquise accents at each corner. A crown band sits above, a star contour band below, and ruby marquises flank the center. Solid 925 sterling silver with a black ruthenium finish.
Lab-Grown Ruby

Three Rings, One Composition
Crown Band
Sits above the engagement ring. A marquise accent at the peak beneath a cluster of round stones, with marquise and round accents sweeping down each shoulder.
Engagement Ring
The marquise center in a milgrain frame, with marquise accents at the four corners and pavé running along the shoulders.
Star Contour Band
Sits below. Five stars along a curved band, each holding a round accent, tracing the lower point of the frame.
The three nest as one composition but wear perfectly well apart — the engagement ring alone, or the engagement ring with either band. If you are looking past a plain solitaire, our guides to fantasy engagement rings and non-traditional engagement rings map the wider field, and what hand an engagement ring goes on covers the question every stacking set eventually raises.
The Lab-Grown Ruby
Ruby is corundum — the red variety — and corundum is a 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond. For a ring worn every day that hardness matters more than almost any other property.
This stone is lab-grown, with the same chemistry, hardness and optical behavior as mined corundum, in a saturated pigeon-blood red that would be scarce and extremely expensive in nature at 5 × 10 mm. It is set north–south, the most elongating orientation, as our guide to marquise engagement rings sets out.
Smaller lab-grown ruby marquises flank the center on the engagement ring, with another at the peak of the crown band, so the red carries through all three pieces rather than sitting in one spot.
Metal and Stones
All three rings are solid 925 sterling silver with a black ruthenium finish — a platinum-group metal that settles to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat black. It is what makes the set read gothic rather than merely dark: the metal recedes and the stones carry the light.
The white accents throughout — marquise at the four corners of the frame, pavé along the shoulders, and a round in each star of the contour band — are cubic zirconia. Moissanite or lab-grown diamond accents are available as a custom order.
Part of our ruby engagement rings and gothic engagement rings collections, alongside the rest of our black ruthenium jewelry. Ruby is the July birthstone — see our birthstone guide — and our guide to gothic wedding rings covers the wider style.

Care
Ruby is 9 on the Mohs scale and among the most durable stones for daily wear. Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and household chemicals, which dull the ruthenium finish, and store the set in its velvet box rather than loose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ruby real?
Yes. It is a genuine ruby — corundum — lab-grown rather than mined. Identical chemistry, hardness and color behavior. The difference is origin, not authenticity.
Why lab-grown rather than natural?
A saturated red at 5 × 10 mm would be rare and very costly in mined corundum. Lab-grown gives the same material and the same 9 Mohs hardness at a fraction of the price, with a known origin.
Are the side stones also ruby?
Yes — smaller lab-grown ruby marquises flank the center stone, with another at the peak of the crown band.
Are the white accent stones diamonds?
No. They are cubic zirconia. Moissanite or lab-grown diamond accents are available as a custom order.
Is ruby a birthstone?
Yes — ruby is the July birthstone.
How dark is the black ruthenium finish?
Ruthenium finishes to a deep gunmetal rather than a flat jet black. The slight reflectivity is what keeps the milgrain and the star detail visible instead of flattening them.
What are the rings made of?
Solid 925 sterling silver throughout, with a black ruthenium finish. No brass or base metal.
How many rings come in the set?
Three: the engagement ring, the crown band that sits above it, and the star contour band that sits below. All three ship together.
Can I wear the rings separately?
Yes. The engagement ring stands on its own, and either band can be worn with it or alone. The three are designed to nest but not to depend on each other.
How big is the center stone?
5 × 10 mm, set north–south so the length runs along the finger. It is a generous marquise and the milgrain frame makes it read larger still.
Do the three rings sit flush?
Yes — the crown band and star band are both contoured to trace the frame of the engagement ring, so the stack closes without gaps.
What sizes are available?
Sizes 4 through 11, including every half size. All three rings are made to the same size.
Can the rings be resized?
Resizing is possible but limited on a nesting set — the three pieces must stay matched, so we keep adjustments within one size. Resizing starts from $45.
Can I have them engraved?
Yes. Engraving is available on the inner band, up to 16 characters, and can be added as an option at checkout.
Are the stones ethically sourced?
Yes. All Aquamarise stones are conflict-free and responsibly sourced, and every order arrives in a free luxury velvet jewelry box.
