Solid 14K rose gold — the heirloom tier
This is the solid 14K rose gold version of our round moss agate + fire opal engagement ring. "Solid gold" means the entire ring is gold alloy throughout — no plating, no gold-filled construction, no sterling silver core. 14K rose gold is gold alloyed with copper to produce the warm, dusty-pink rose gold tone, hard enough for daily wear, and built to last indefinitely.
The practical difference vs the sterling silver vermeil version: a solid 14K rose gold ring is built to last a lifetime. It doesn't need replating, doesn't wear through, and holds resale and inheritance value in a way that lighter constructions don't. This is the version you choose when you want the engagement ring to outlast you — not just for the duration of the marriage, but for generations after. The rose gold tone is preserved from the vermeil version (so the warm-pink-meets-forest-green color story stays consistent), but the underlying material is dramatically more substantial.
Rose gold against the moss-agate-and-fire-opal palette remains a deliberate color story — the warm pink-gold provides a counterpoint to the cool greens and blues of the stones, picking up the warm tones in the moss patterns and providing visual unity across the whole composition. The opal flashes in particular pick up rose gold tones beautifully — fire opals worn against rose gold often look as if the warm pink-gold has flashed inside the opal itself.
About the natural moss agate
The center stone — and the marquise side accents flanking it — are genuine natural moss agate. Moss agate is a variety of chalcedony quartz (silicon dioxide), translucent milky-white to clear in base body color, with characteristic green dendritic inclusions that look like ferns or moss frozen inside the stone. The "moss" isn't actually plant material — it's mineral inclusions of manganese and iron oxide that crystallized in branching fractal patterns during the stone's formation millions of years ago.
Moss agate sits at 7 on the Mohs hardness scale — same as most quartz varieties, harder than opal or moonstone, durable enough for daily wear with sensible care. Each stone is genuinely one-of-a-kind: the moss patterns vary completely from stone to stone, with some leaning toward dense forest-floor patterns, others showing more open watercolor washes of green, and others featuring distinct fern-like branching structures.
If you have a preference (denser moss vs lighter patterns, darker greens vs lighter sage tones, more clear vs more milky base), message us before ordering and we can send photos of available stones to choose from.
About the lab-created fire opal accents
The iridescent blue accent stones at the outer edges of each side cluster are lab-created fire opal — real opal material (hydrated silica with the same play-of-color structure as natural mined opal) grown under controlled laboratory conditions rather than mined from the earth. Lab-created opal shares the same fundamental composition as natural opal and produces the same play-of-color effect: the shifting blue, green, and rainbow flashes you see in the photographs are produced by light diffracting through stacked silica spheres inside the stone.
"Fire opal" describes opal with vivid play-of-color (the rainbow flash) rather than the more subdued "common opal" without play-of-color. Lab-created fire opal produces these flashes reliably and consistently — natural mined fire opal with comparable flash intensity at this size would significantly increase the ring's price.
If you'd prefer natural mined fire opal accents instead of lab-created at this solid gold tier, message us before ordering for a custom quote on the upgrade. Natural opal options include Australian opal (typically the most prized for play-of-color intensity) and Ethiopian Welo opal (excellent value with strong rainbow flash). The fully upgraded solid 14K rose gold + natural moss agate + natural fire opal version is the all-natural-stones heirloom configuration.
About the round cut
The round brilliant cut is the most traditional engagement ring cut, but it reads completely differently on a moss agate vs a diamond. On a diamond, the round brilliant maximizes faceted light return. On a moss agate, the round brilliant lets the natural inclusion patterns spread across a circular field — the moss patterns become the visual focal point rather than faceted brilliance. At 7.0 × 7.0 mm and approximately 1.8 carats, the round center reads substantial without crossing into oversized.
The round shape also lets the moss agate read more organically — the circular outline doesn't impose geometric structure on the natural patterns inside, so the stone looks more like a "window into a forest" than a precisely-cut crystal.
About the nature-inspired vine framework
The setting framework reads as a botanical study — the round moss agate at the center, with solid rose gold vine metalwork curving organically from each side of the band into the central setting. The vine motif is asymmetric and slightly wild, capturing the feeling of actual growing vines rather than ornamental botanical patterns. The marquise moss agate and pear fire opal accents are set into the vine framework as if they're leaves and flowers that have grown along it.
In solid 14K rose gold, the vine framework reads with more substantial weight and presence than the same pattern in vermeil — the metal's density gives the open vine pattern a fuller, heirloom feel on the finger. The visual story across the whole ring stays the same: forest interior (the moss-pattern agate center), wildflowers and morning light (the marquise agate + fire opal mixed cluster), and rose gold vines wrapping the whole composition.

How to wear it
This ring was built primarily as an engagement ring, but its versatility extends beyond that:
- Engagement ring — the primary role, especially for buyers drawn to nature-inspired, witchy, fairy, forest, cottagecore, or alternative bridal aesthetics rather than the standard white-diamond solitaire. The solid 14K gold tier elevates the design to unmistakable heirloom status
- Promise ring — solid gold construction and the substantial moss agate center give the ring the full weight of a lifetime commitment piece
- Anniversary or milestone gift — moss agate symbolizes growth, harmony, and balance; fire opal symbolizes passion, transformation, and creative energy. Opal is also the traditional 14th wedding anniversary stone. The combination is appropriate for major anniversaries
- October birthstone heirloom gift — opal is the October birthstone, layering an additional gift-occasion symbolism onto the design
- Right-hand statement ring — for buyers drawn to nature-inspired aesthetics who want a forest-themed heirloom piece
For an engagement ring pairing, the ring stacks beautifully with a curved or chevron contour wedding band — match in solid 14K rose gold for a unified heirloom stack, or contrast with solid yellow gold or white gold contour bands for a deliberate two-tone bridal look. Twisted-rope vine bands stack especially well alongside the organic vine framework of this engagement ring.

Sizing & care
Standard sizes 3–10 (US) available in the dropdown. Larger and smaller sizes are available on request — message us before ordering. Half and quarter sizes available. Sizing can vary slightly between jewelers and mandrels — up to half a size — so if you've been sized recently elsewhere, check our sizing guide before ordering or message us for a complimentary ring sizer.
For care, the ring has two stone types with different durability profiles. The moss agate (center + marquise sides) sits at Mohs 7 — durable for daily wear with sensible care. The lab-created fire opal (pear accents) sits at Mohs 5.5–6.5 — softer than the agate and requires more careful handling. Across both stones: avoid impact on hard surfaces, harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and extreme temperature changes. Clean with warm water and a soft brush only.
Solid 14K rose gold doesn't need replating and holds its tone indefinitely with normal wear. A soft jewelry cloth keeps the rose gold bright. Store the ring separately from other jewelry so the prongs don't catch on other pieces. The opal accents are particularly sensitive to dehydration — over many years, opals can develop fine surface crazing if kept in extremely dry environments, so don't store the ring in a heated jewelry box or in direct sunlight for extended periods.
Frequently asked questions
Is this ring solid gold or gold plated?
Solid 14K rose gold throughout — no plating, no gold-filled construction, no sterling silver core. The entire ring is rose gold alloy. Solid gold is the heirloom-tier construction: built to last a lifetime, never needs replating, holds resale and inheritance value.
What's the difference between this and the sterling silver vermeil version?
Same design, one significant upgrade: the metal goes from sterling silver vermeil (sterling silver core with 14K rose gold bonded over it) to solid 14K rose gold throughout. The stones stay the same (natural moss agate center + marquise moss agate sides + lab-created fire opal pear accents) because they're already real-stones at the vermeil tier. The metal upgrade is what makes this the heirloom-tier configuration — the ring's structure now lasts a lifetime and beyond, and the rose gold tone is preserved indefinitely without replating. An optional further upgrade to natural mined fire opal accents is available on request, making the fully upgraded version the all-natural-stones heirloom configuration.
Is the moss agate real?
Yes — both the round center stone and the marquise side accents are genuine natural mined moss agate. Moss agate is a variety of chalcedony quartz with natural mineral inclusions of manganese and iron oxide. The "moss" inside the stone isn't plant material — it's mineral dendrites. Hardness 7 on the Mohs scale.
Are the iridescent blue accents real opals?
Yes — they're real lab-created opals. Lab-created opal is genuine opal material (hydrated silica with the same play-of-color structure as natural opal), grown under controlled laboratory conditions rather than mined from the earth. It shares the same fundamental composition and visual properties as natural opal — the iridescent blue, green, and rainbow flashes are real opal play-of-color produced by light diffracting through stacked silica spheres inside the stone.
What's the difference between natural and lab-created fire opal?
Both are real opal — same chemistry, same play-of-color mechanism. Lab-created opal is grown in a controlled environment over weeks; natural opal forms over millions of years underground. The visual effect (the fire pattern) is comparable. The main differences are price (lab-created is dramatically more accessible at this carat size) and color consistency (lab-created produces more uniform flash patterns; natural fire opal varies more from stone to stone and is significantly rarer at this color intensity). Both wear and care the same way.
Can I upgrade to natural mined fire opal instead?
Yes. Lab-created fire opal is the default at this heirloom tier because it pairs the play-of-color of real opal with significantly more accessible pricing than natural mined fire opal at this size. If you want natural mined fire opal accents specifically — for the cultural significance, rarity, or the fully all-natural-stones bridal piece — message us before ordering for a custom quote. Natural opal options include Australian opal (typically the most prized for play-of-color intensity) and Ethiopian Welo opal (excellent value with strong rainbow flash).
Why combine moss agate with fire opal?
The combination is unusual and distinctive. Most moss agate engagement rings use white-stone accents (CZ, diamond, white sapphire) to let the moss agate carry the color story alone. Pairing moss agate with fire opal creates a dual-color story — forest green from the agate + iridescent blue from the opal — that reads more like a natural ecosystem than a single-stone color study. The opal flashes also pick up the rose gold tones in the metal, unifying the whole color palette beautifully.
Will my stone look exactly like the photos?
Similar in character, but not identical in pattern. Each moss agate is a natural one-of-a-kind stone with its own unique distribution of dendritic inclusions. The center stone and the marquise sides will share the same general moss-agate character (translucent base, green dendrites) but with their own unique pattern distributions. The lab-created fire opal accents are more consistent because they're grown in controlled conditions, though play-of-color always varies somewhat from stone to stone.
Why round cut instead of kite or hexagon?
Most moss agate engagement rings use angular geometric cuts because the contrast between the geometric outline and the organic interior is part of the design appeal. The round cut reads completely differently — the circular outline doesn't impose geometric structure on the natural patterns inside, so the moss patterns flow more freely and the stone looks more like a "window into a forest" than a precisely-cut crystal. It's the right choice when you want the moss agate to read as fully organic rather than as a framed natural specimen.
How big is the center stone?
7.0 × 7.0 mm round cut, approximately 1.8 carats. The round shape and substantial carat weight give the stone genuine visible presence on the finger. With the moss agate and fire opal side cluster framework, the overall ring face reads larger than the center stone alone.
How durable is moss agate for daily wear?
Moss agate sits at 7 on the Mohs hardness scale — same as most quartz varieties, harder than opal or moonstone, but softer than sapphire (9) or diamond (10). Durable enough for daily wear with sensible care.
How durable is the fire opal?
Lab-created fire opal sits at 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale — softer than moss agate, comparable to natural opal. Opal of any kind requires more careful handling than harder stones: avoid impact, harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and extreme temperature changes. The opal accents are set within the cluster framework, which gives them some protection from impact, but careful wear is the right approach. With sensible care, opal accents last indefinitely.
How does engraving work?
Complimentary engraving up to 16 characters is included. You can specify the text at checkout or message us with the engraving details before ordering. Engraving is interior (inside the band), the standard placement for engagement ring engravings.
Can I get this in 14K yellow or white gold instead?
Yes — both are available on request at the same construction. Yellow gold against the moss-and-opal palette reads as more vintage-classical (warm-on-warm); white gold reads as cool celestial-forest (cool-on-cool, lets the green and blue stones carry the entire color story alone). 18K upgrades (yellow, white, or rose) are also available at additional cost. Message us before ordering.
How long until my ring ships?
Made to order, 2–6 week production timeline. Modifications (different metal, custom engraving, natural fire opal upgrade, custom sizing, alternative center stone selection) may extend the timeline. We'll confirm production timing when your order is placed.
Should I add the appraisal?
The optional appraisal is recommended if you plan to insure the ring or want an independent valuation document for your records. Most insurance providers require a written appraisal to schedule the ring on a jewelry policy. The appraisal cost is non-refundable once the work has been performed, so add it at checkout only if you know you'll use it.
What does the moss agate + opal combination symbolize?
In metaphysical and energy traditions, moss agate represents growth, harmony with nature, abundance, and emotional balance — the "gardener's stone." Fire opal represents passion, transformation, creative energy, and emotional intensity. The combination layers two complementary symbolic registers: grounded growth (agate) + transformative passion (fire opal) = a relationship that's both rooted and dynamically alive. For an engagement ring, the symbolic combination is unusually rich.
Are the stones ethically sourced?
Yes. The natural moss agate (center + marquise accents) is ethically sourced and conflict-free. The lab-created fire opal accents have no mining footprint (grown in a lab). If you upgrade to natural mined fire opal on the custom version, we source from ethical Australian and Ethiopian opal mines with verified fair-labor practices.
